Juniors Meghan McGuire and Sara Cooke both score three goals

WASHINGTON - CUA women's soccer (8-3, 4-0 CAC) handily beat the Gallaudet Bison (2-6, 0-3 CAC) at DuFour Field Monday evening.  The Cardinals had three players score multiple goals in the 9-0 routing.  Junior Meghan McGuire (East Amherst, N.Y./Buffalo Sacred Heart) scored her first three goals of the season in the contest.  Sara Cooke (San Diego, Calif./Our Lady of Peace) continued her strong season netting three scores as well.

McGuire got the early goal just two minutes into the game off of a CUA corner kick.  The Cards took a shot which was blocked and she was able to slide the ball past keeper Amelia Palmer on the rebound to make it 1-0.  At 17:22 Cooke took a pass from Diana Napolitano (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J./Immaculate Heart) to put the score at 2-0.

The Cards continued to dominate the offensive play in the first half with Suzie Peters (Nanuet, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) netting two goals, as well as Cooke knocking down numbers three and four for the game.  As the teams went into the break, the score was at 6-0.

The second half went as smoothly as the first with the Cardinals scoring three more goals.  McGuire took over at 53:52 heading in a ball off of a cross from freshman Diana Spadaro (Stony Point, N.Y./Albertus Magnus).  Just three minutes later, McGuire struck again this time getting the assist from Kelley Andersen (Dover, Del./St. Thomas More).  Senior Kate Rosenberg (Portland, Ore./Saint Mary's) hit the final goal of the game with Napolitano notching the helper making the final 9-0.

The Cardinals finished with 31 shots, 21 of those on goal while the Bison had one shot for the contest.  Palmer had 12 saves for Gallaudet.  Splitting time in goal for the Cardinals were Kate Milazzo (Corning, N.Y./Corning East) and Tere Rossi (Annandale, Va./Falls Church). The Cards also had five corner kicks while the Bison were awarded none.  This was the second game in a row that CUA did not allow a corner kick or shot on goal by the opponent.

The Cards will play at Marymount on Thursday.  Kickoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
