Women's Soccer Falls to Rochester

CUA will play Elms College on Sunday in the consolation game

SALEM, Va. (Sept. 2, 2006) - After a breakout season in 2005, Catholic University Women's Soccer (0-1) started this year falling 1-0 to the University of Rochester Yellowjackets (1-0), one of the top teams in the nation.  The game at the Roanoke College Showcase was a big test for the Cardinals as they played through muddy conditions as well as without 2005 CAC Player of the Year, Laura Kaye, who graduated in May.

The contest proved to be a defensive battle as both teams held each other scoreless until the 34th minute.  Angela Heaney took a pass from Stephanie Klenotich which was too much for the Cardinal defense as Heaney slid in for the eventual game-winning goal.  The second half was even but the damage was already done.

CUA trailed in both shots (CUA 4-UR 11) and corner kicks (2-4), but first team All-CAC goalkeeper Kim Stengle (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) proved indispensable in the net with five saves to the Yellowjackets' two.

The Cards will take on Elms College in the consolation game Sunday beginning at noon.
