Cooke scores 90th minute off of Rossi assist

YORK, Pa. - A wild two minutes concluded regulation out of the excitement came Catholic University women's soccer's fourth tie of the year.  The Cardinals tied the York College Spartans (10-5-3), 1-1, Wednesday afternoon in Pennsylvania to move to 9-2-4 on the year.

York dominated the first half with CUA not even getting a shot off until midway through the first when Diana Napolitano (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J./Immaculate Heart) sent one into the arms of keeper Meagan Cahill. Late in the half the Cardinals finally began to show some life on offense but neither team would manage to find the back of the net keeping it scoreless at the break.

The second half was the same as the first and with time winding down it looked as if it would go into overtime scoreless.  However, in the 89th minute CUA keeper Tere Rossi's (Annandale, Va./Falls Church)  goal kick was taken by Jill Stanley who knocked it in to go up 1-0 with a minute to play.  York's excitement was short lived, however, as Rossi joined the offense in the final seconds hoping to get a man up opportunity.  CUA was awarded the corner kick which bounced out to Rossi near midfield.  She managed to send it into the box to the foot of Sara Cooke (San Diego, Calif./Our Lady of Peace) who evened the score with a mere five seconds remaining to force OT.

After two exciting minutes, it went back to scoreless soccer for the remaining 20 to make the final a 1-1 tie.  York controlled the offense outshooting CUA 22-5 and taking 10 corner kicks while the Cards had four.  Rossi had nine saves in the game while Cahill posted two.

The Cards will travel to Susquehanna this Saturday for their final game before the start of the Landmark Conference tournament. The game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
