Peters' hat trick leads CUA over Shenandoah
WINCHESTER, Va. - The Catholic University women's soccer team (7-1-2) finally got back on the scoring track with an 8-1 victory over the Shenandoah University Hornets (3-7) Wednesday evening in Virginia. Prior to the game the Cardinals had scored just one goal in the last 220 minutes of play after two ties the past week.
Suzie Peters (Nanuet, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) scored a hat trick in the game with a goal in the first half and a pair in the second. Senior Elyse Bellardini (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) also had multiple goals with the first one of the game off of a pass from Jenna Graham (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) and the second four minutes later.
Kelly Anderson (Dover, Del./St. Thomas More) found the back of the net before the half making the score 4-1 at the break. Early in the second Sara Cooke (San Diego, Calif./Our Lady of Peace) took another one of Graham's passes to go up by four. After Peters' two tallies, Caitlin Laverty (Columbia, Md./Hammond) capped off the game with a goal in the 75th minute to make the final 8-1.
Peters led all scorers with three goals while Kelly Donnelly (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) had a pair of assists. The Cards controlled the ball almost the entire game outshooting the Hornets 38-3. CUA also had two corner kicks while Shenandoah had none.
CUA will travel to Scranton on Saturday for a conference game versus the Royals beginning at 1 p.m.
