Cardinals hang tough with Chestnut Hill before falling 6-3

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Cardinals hung tough with Division II Chestnut Hill on Wednesday evening before falling 6-3.  Amanda Pellegrino and Gretchen Coombs earned singles wins for CUA, and Ritamarie Holden and Margie Selinger picked up a doubles victory.

In singles action, Chestnut Hill's Nastia Shcherbakova defeated Andie Ingram 6-1, 6-1 at the first flight, while CUA's Caitlin Porter fell to Maria Parapouras 6-0, 6-0 at the second flight.

Morgan Oechsle upended the Cardinals' Elaina Sceusa 6-3, 6-0 at third singles and Danielle Knott came away with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Emma Needham at the fourth flight.

Pellegrino picked up CUA's first point of the day with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Alexis Puhl at the fifth flight and Coombs followed that up with a 6-1, 7-5 victory against Olivia Stevenson at sixth singles.

At first doubles, Shcherbakova and Parapouras defeated Ingram and Isabel Tanco 8-1, while Holden and Selinger downed Knott and Puhl 8-4 at second doubles.

Oeschsle and Stevenson closed things out with an 8-4 win over Porter and Pellegrino at the third flight.

On Thursday, CUA faces Northwestern (Minn.) at 3 p.m. in its penultimate match on the spring break trip.
