Women's Tennis Tops Gettysburg, 8-1

Gettysburg, Pa.- The Catholic University of America women's tennis team took a 8-1 victory over Gettysburg on Saturday, extending their winning streak to three in their fall 2015 season.

The junior Laura Torsiello and sophomore Sarah MacLean tandem defeated the Bullet's No. 1 doubles in a 9-7 victory. Sophomore Jenna Gietl and freshman Erin Cole notched a 9-7 win in No. 2 doubles.

The Cardinals swept the singles competition. Torsiello took a 6-2, 6-3 victory to start off singles play. Gietl won back-to-back 6-1 games at No. 2 singles, while fellow MacLean took a 6-2, 6-0 win in the No. 3 spot.

Sophomore Maria Flores won the first set 6-1, then fell 2-6 in the second set against the Bullet's Kelli Rubin. Flores took the third set to put the Cardinals ahead 3-0 in singles. Senior Lindsay Rekstis took a close 7-6, 6-3 victory, and junior Faith Tamuleviz closed out the win with a back-to-back 6-3 win.

The Cardinals are now 3-0 in their 2015 fall season and will travel to Hood College on Wednesday, September 30, for a 1 p.m. match.
