WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America women's tennis team secured its second win of the weekend on Sunday when they took down St. Mary's (Md.) at the Dowd Family Courts, prior to a win at McDaniel in Westminster, Md. on Saturday. The Cardinals are now a perfect 4-0 on the season.
Catholic won all but one singles match against the Green Terror in their 7-2 victory. Junior Elizabeth Ast led the way in the No. 2 spot as she battled for the win, 6-2, 6-4.
The Cardinals were boosted by impressive play from No. 3 freshman Caroline Ciocco and her classmate and No. 6 competitor Christina Cochrane, who both went perfect, 6-0, 6-0 against their counterparts.
Pennsylvania natives Bridget Kikelly and Cochrane also saw success in their No. 3 doubles 8-0 win.
Catholic continued its impressive play by overtaking the visiting Seahawks, 6-3, on Sunday afternoon.
Edwards remained undefeated as she took her third victory of the weekend, 4-6, 7-5, 10-6, over Savannah Bergen in the No. 5 singles match.
No. 2 Senior Sarah MacLean seized a win in the third round going 6-0, 3-6, 6-1. Ast took her No. 4 match into a tie-breaker set and came out on top, 7-5.
Catholic will take on Washington D.C. rival Trinity on Saturday, September 21.
