Genadry & MacLean Win ITA Doubles Championship

WASHINGTON — The Catholic University of America women's tennis team competed at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southeast Regional Championships this past weekend and came away with several strong performances.

The junior Lisa Genadry and Sarah MacLean led the way as they combined to win the No. 3 doubles bracket with a win over Moravian, 8-5, before a tie-breaking win against Grove City, 9-8 (2) in the championship match.

Genadry downed Shenandoah's Hannah Matson in the No. 4 singles bracket before falling to Jia-Ling Tuan of Haverford in the final eight round.

MacLean advanced to the quarterfinals of the No. 3 singles draw as she defeated Dickinson's Elisa Varlotta before a 2-6, 6-4, 2-10, three-set loss to Franklin & Marshall's Jingzi Wu.

Junior Erin Cole also competed in the No. 3 bracket and made it to the semifinal matchup. Cole was victorious over Moravian's Brooke Adams, 7-6 (2), 6-1 to make it to the final four.

Cole also teamed with senior Jenna Gietl in the No. 2 doubles draw and the duo also advanced all the way to the semifinals. The Cardinal team earned win over Salisbury, 9-7, and Moravian, 8-3, but were topped by Grove City in the round of eight, 8-2.

Catholic is back in action this Saturday as the Cards hit the road to take on York (Pa.) at noon.
