Catholic Downs Goucher for Fourth-Straight Win

WASHINGTON — The Catholic University of America women's tennis team improved to 3-1 in the Landmark Conference as the Cardinals earned their fourth-straight win with a 7-2 victory at home against Goucher.

In its second-straight 7-2 Landmark victory, Catholic is now in the driver's seat for a spot in the conference playoffs with just two league foes left on their regular-season schedule.

The Cardinals took all three doubles matches and the top-three singles bouts against the Gophers in the Wednesday afternoon bout on the Dowd Family Courts.

Senior Jenna Gietl led way as a two-time winner as she took the top singles match, 6-0, 6-2, and teamed with junior Erin Cole to earn the victory in the No. 1 doubles match, 8-6.

Cole also went on to win the No. 3 singles match in dominating fashion, 6-0, 6-0.

Catholic wraps its 2018 regular season with two home Landmark matches this weekend. The Cards welcome Moravian to Brookland on Saturday before hosting Elizabethtown on Sunday. Both contests are set for 1 p.m.
