TOWSON, Md. – The Catholic University of American's Jenna Gietl has been selected as the 2018 Landmark Conference Women's Tennis Senior Scholar Athlete. She becomes the first Cardinal to earn senior scholar women's tennis accolades.
She joins Kelly Cousoulis (Field Hockey), Patrick Jones (Men's Cross Country and Swimming & Diving), Matthew Holtschneider (Men's Soccer), Danny O'Hagan (Baseball), and Bennett Bradley (Men's Lacrosse) as a senior scholar honorees for Catholic this season.
In 2017-18, Gietl played at number one doubles and singles all season long. She finished with nine singles wins and a 4-2 mark in top Landmark competition. She also posted 11-11 mark with partner No. 1 doubles partner Erin Cole as the duo went 4-2 in league matches.
She finished her career with All-Landmark First Team Singles and Second Team Doubles honors and helped the Cardinals defeat No. 2 Moravian in the Landmark semifinal match to reach the conference championship match.
Off the court, Gietl has recorded a 3.93 GPA as a Mechanical Engineering major.
She has also volunteered in different organizations on campus, including, MLK Day of Service, Halloween on Campus for local youth, Special Olympics, and is a member of So Others Might Eat (SOME), Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), and the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society philanthropy.
The Landmark Conference selects 22 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.
The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, faculty athletic representatives, senior woman administrators, and sports information directors.
