Six Cardinals Compete at the ITA Regional Championship

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The Catholic University women's tennis team competed at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southeast Regional Championships this past weekend.

Freshman Brooke Simonson reached the finals in the flight D singles bracket as the No. 2 seed. After defeating Rachel Crawford of Bridgewater College, 8-2, Simonson advanced to the semifinals where she earned a win over Stevenson's Kelsi Mentzer, 8-3, before falling to Lauren Morrison of Southern Virginia University in the final round of the bracket.

Simonson also teamed with junior Lauren Edwards in the C doubles bracket. The duo advanced to the quarterfinals on a bye before earning a win over Stevenson, 8-3, and Southern Virginia, 8-3, but were topped by Virginia Wesleyan in the final.

Senior Erin Cole and sophomore Grace Connell joined together in the B doubles bracket and defeated Sweet Briar College 8-3 to advance to the quarterfinals before falling to John Hopkins 8-0.

Catholic is back in action this Wednesday at home against Trinity (D.C.) at 3:30 p.m.
