ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Catholic University women's tennis junior Lauren Edwards posted two wins on the day at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles, but Elizabethtown won five of the first six matches en route to a 7-2 victory Sunday at Alumni Courts.
Edwards accounted for both Catholic (4-9, 1-3 LC) wins, pairing with sophomore Colleen McLaughlin for an 8-2 victory at No. 3 doubles before posting a 6-0, 7-6 (7-3) win over Sarah Donner in the final match of the day at No. 6 singles.
Edwards and McLaughlin gave the Cardinals a quick 1-0 lead, but the Blue Jays (8-1, 4-1 LC), who currently sit in third place in the Landmark Conference standings, won the next seven, clinching the match with a victory at No. 3 singles.
Paired together for the first time in four conference matches this season, Edwards and McLaughlin are 2-1 as a team this season. McLaughlin has had six different doubles partners in 13 matches this season.
Sophomore Grace Connell had won three consecutive singles matches before falling to Kailey Caroland at No. 2, 6-3, 6-2.
Catholic returns home on Wednesday when it hosts a Landmark Conference contest versus Goucher at The Dowd Family Tennis Courts beginning at 3 p.m.
