Women’s Track & Field Prepares for Landmark Championships

WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America women's track & field team competed in its final meet before next weekend Landmark Conference Championships. The Cardinals were in action at the Susquehanna Open, the site of the 2016 league championship.

Sophomore Kiera Lyons made her debut for the women's track team, placing ninth overall among 50 competitors in the mile, crossing the finish line in 5:36.50. She also finished 17th out of 58 runners in the 800 with a time of 2:33.02.

Lyons, a transfer from Butler University, also won a Landmark championship with the women's soccer team this past fall and finished seventh overall on the one-meter board as a diver at the conference championship just last weekend.

Rookie thrower Andrea Galeano finished ninth overall in the weight throw with a toss of 12.46 meters.

Freshman jumper Victoria Turner had a strong meet, placing ninth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 10.02. She also turned in a top-15 performance, going 4.77 meters in the long jump, good for 11th place.

The Landmark Championship will be held next Saturday, February 27, at SU.
