NEW ORLEANS, La. - Catholic University women's track and field seniors Andrea Galeano and Kiera Lyons were named to the 2019 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-South/Southeast Region Team on Sunday.
The top five individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region honors, in addition to each of the members of a top-3 ranked relay team.
Galeano earned all-region honors in the hammer throw for the second-straight year. She finished with the fourth-best mark in the South/Southeast Region with her toss of 48.54 meters (159' 3") at the 2019 Landmark Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships to win the event and earn All-Landmark Conference First Team honors.
Named Catholic's 2019 Outstanding Female Senior Student-Athlete, Galeano was a five-time all-conference selection in outdoor track and a four-time champion, including three in the hammer and one in the shot put.
Lyons also finished with the fourth-best mark in the steeplechase in the South/Southeast Region with her time of 11:19.32 at the 2019 Landmark Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships to win the event and earn All-Landmark Conference First Team honors after finishing second in 2018.
Lyons scored 18 total points for Catholic at the conference outdoor meet, finishing fifth in the 1,500 meters and 400-meter hurdles.
A total of 1915 honors were handed out to athletes from USTFCCCA member institutions, which included a near-even split between men's (951) and women's programs (964).
