Middle distance looks strong for CUA


NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- The Catholic University women's track and field squad had its final tune up before the Landmark Conference Championship last Saturday at Christopher Newport University.  The Cards had some solid showings at the highly-competitive non-scored meet.

The middle distance and distance runners had some of the best finishes of the day for CUA as they ran against a number of schools from all divisions.  In the 800 meters, Remy Ball (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) and Mary Shashaty (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood) were 14th and 15th, respectively, clocking in at 2:34.37 and 2:35.22.  Ball also had a good race in the mile placing 22nd in a time of 5:38.82.  In the 3,000 meters, Jenna Hackett (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins) was 19th overall running an 11:12.86 to round out the top performances.

In the field events, Nwakaego Ekwuabu placed 22nd in the shot put throwing it 9.31 meters for the day.

The Cardinals will have a weekend off before traveling to Susquehanna on February 23 for the Landmark Conference Championship meet.
