Strong team effort by CUA at Bridgewater Invitational

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Cardinals headed to the Bridgewater Invitational on Saturday and there were a number of impressive showings throughout the day.  Camelia Mayfield took first in the 5000 as she crossed in a time of 21:09.94, with Keely Eckberg close behind in second place with a time of 21:47.29.  The 4x100 relay team also won its respective event, with a time of 54.28 seconds.

CUA had a strong showing in the 800 meters with Katie Sacker placing fourth in 2:35.69, Maddie Holtz crossing in sixth place (2:44.36), Eckberg in seventh (2:45.48), and Kathryn Crawford in eighth (2:47.57).

In the 100 meters Ali Nelson finished third with a time of 13.52 seconds and Margaret McElroy crossed in fifth in 14.15.

In the 1500 Laura Kinley raced her way to a third place showing in a time of 5:05.46 with Sacker placing fifth, Crawford ninth and Holtz tenth.

The 4x100 relay team of Rachel Won, Melanie Mulkern, Nelson and Meghan McGovern won its event, and in the 4x400 relay the CUA foursome of Kinley, Won, Nelson and Mulkern gave the Cardinals a second first place relay finish after crossing in 4:23.93.

Won later added a third place finish in the 100 hurdles, with a time of 17.40 and a second place showing in the 400 hurdles (1:11.68).

In the field events Kelly Carioto finished second in the hammer after a toss of 41.04 meters.  She also placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 11.26 meters, and her 31.46 meter throw in the discus was good for third.  Won competed in the javelin and finished third with a throw of 27.21 meters.
