Cardinals remain hot, sweep two more matches

SALEM, Va. – The Cardinals kept rolling on Saturday, sweeping two more matches to improve to 24-6 on the season.  CUA downed Shenandoah in the opener, before closing out its day with a 3-0 win over host Roanoke College.  CUA has now won 15 of its past 16 matches.

In the day's opening match, CUA swept past the Hornets 3-0, with set scores of 25-11, 26-24 and 25-17.

Freshman Mariana Cruz continued her strong play for the Cards, handing out 32 assists to go along with seven digs. 

Kristina Purcell was the team leader in digs with 19, while Katie Chefalas (13) and Claudia Jean (10) joined her in double figures.

Chefalas and Jean shared the team lead in kills with eight, while Kelly Crimmins totaled seven kills and a pair of blocks.  Audrey Bizak also added two blocks, as well as four kills.

Shenandoah received 10 or more digs from four different players, while Kelcy Brown led the squad in assists with 19.

In match number-two, CUA downed the host school Roanoke College 3-0.  Set scores were 25-19, 25-23, and 25-12.

Cruz finished with 27 assists this time around, while Bridget Kulesh was the team leader in kills with nine.  Jean and Crimmins totaled eight kills apiece, and Jean (12) joined Purcell (17) with double figure digs.

Bizak, Crimmins, and Kulesh led the way in blocks with three apiece.

Mackenzie Tyree led the home team with 21 digs on the afternoon, while Sarah Long finished with nine kills and Alexandra Martin dished out 16 assists.

On Sunday, CUA will close out its weekend road trip with a visit to Lynchburg.  Start time is set for 1 p.m.
