Harrisonburg, Va. — The Catholic University of America volleyball team improved to a perfect 4-0 to start the 2017 season and did so in impressive fashion on day two of the Eastern Mennonite Invitational. The Cardinals downed Methodist in straight-sets on Saturday before coming back from a 0-2 deficit to defeat Lynchburg, 3-2.
Senior Brynn Cooley got the deciding kill against Lynchburg and finished the game with a team-high 15. Just behind was senior middle hitter Amy O'Connor and freshman Patricia Martinez, who each had 14.
Martinez once again went for the double-double as she racked up 23 digs against Lynchburg and was selected to the EMU Invite All-Tournament Team. She just missed the double-dip in the win over Methodist with 12 kills and nine digs.
Senior setter Michelle Seals set the pace for the Cards in their first win of the day with 40 assists and 10 digs in just three sets.
The Cardinals return to action this Wednesday, September 6, when they wrap up a five-game road swing to open the year at Gettysburg.
