Nassib named all-tourney


SELINSGROVE, Pa. - The Catholic University volleyball squad had a successful weekend at the Susquehanna Invitational Friday and Saturday.  The Cardinals went 3-1 over the two-day tourney and improved to 20-12 for the season.  Sophomore Carey Anne Nassib was selected to the all-tournament squad.

On Friday evening CUA defeated Rowan 3-0 winning 30-13, 30-22 and 30-20.  Nassib paced the Cardinals with ten kills and eight digs for the match.  Kilah Fox notched eight kills.

The second match of the evening was a barnburner as the Cards came back from a two-game deficit to win forcing extra points in the final game.  Richard Stockton won the first two games 30-22, 30-24.  However, the Cardinals rallied in the final three winning 20-35, 30-21, 18-16.  Nassib was unstoppable at the net tallying 29 kills and 33 digs.  Fox added 18 kills and freshman Mary Kate Gardner had 13.  Setter Emily McGlynn controlled the floor with 69 assists and Liz Koruda had five solo blocks in the middle.

On the second day of matches the Cards used their momentum from Friday to get the 3-0 victory over the host Crusaders 30-21, 30-24, 30-27.  Nassib led once again with 15 kills and Fox added 14. 

In the final match of the day CUA ran out of steam falling 3-0 to former Capital Athletic Conference for York 30-22, 30-23, 30-23.  Nassib completed her weekend leading with 13 kills and Fox added five.

Catholic University will host the Gallaudet Bison on Tuesday in its Senior Night match beginning at 7 p.m. at the DuFour Center.
