ELIZABETHTOWN- The Catholic University volleyball team went 2-2 this weekend, earning two wins over Wesley and Widener, and falling to #13 Eastern and Gallaudet University.

In game one, the Cardinals were unable to garner any offensive momentum, falling to #13 Eastern University in three sets (25-17, 25-12, 25-15). Kim Ray (Chicago, Ill./Regina Dominican) and Katie Chefalas (Hicksville, N.Y./Holy Trinity) each tallied six kills apiece, while Kristina Purcell (Springfield, Pa./Merian Mercy) added nine digs on the defensive end. Michaela Carroll (Amityville, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) chipped in with 19 assists in the loss.

CUA then regained their composure, sweeping Wesley in three sets (25-17, 25-15, 25-13). Chefalas had another solid game for the Cardinals, contributing 13 kills and 11 digs. Carroll garnered an impressive 37 assists, while teammate Purcell added 13 digs.

The Cardinals then faced Widener in game three, defeating their opponent 3-1 (25-10, 25-23, 23-25, 25-18). Ray led CUA's offensive strike with 14 kills. Claudia Jean (San Juan, P.R. /Academia Maria Reina) earned 11 defensive digs, while Carroll managed 44 assists.

In their final game of the afternoon, the Red and Blacked faced DC rival Gallaudet University, falling to the Bison in five sets (25-21, 24-26, 16-25, 25-23, 13-15). Carroll was an oustanding force for the Cards, tallying 44 assists. Chefalas added an impressive 21 kills, while Purcell added 35 digs.

CUA will return to action on Saturday, October 3rd, as they travel to Moravian for a 1 p.m., conference match-up.
