Eckberg places 4th to lead CUA at CNU Invite

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – CUA placed 8th at the CNU Invite on Saturday in an event that featured 17 schools.  Keely Eckberg continued her terrific season for the Cards, racing her way to a fourth place finish in 23:02.32.  The race was the Cardinals' final tune-up before the conference championships in two weeks.

Along with Eckberg, other Cardinals who competed included Laura Kinley, who came in 10th place with a time of 23:48.07, Rebecca Radcliffe, who came in 37th place in 24:44.92, Cristine Butrico (75), Erin Schlegel (91), Kristen Rayfield (97), Masie Carr (121), and Brianna Navaro (123).

Host Christopher Newport won the team title with 84 points, just narrowly beating out Washington & Lee, which finished with 86 points.  Eastern Mennonite (99), Bridgewater (106) and Lynchburg (145) rounded out the top-five.

Freshman Kaylee Kubisiak of Bridgewater captured the individual championship, crossing in a time of 22:27.70, while her teammate Olivia Mills was second, finishing in 22:35.61.

CUA returns to action two weeks from today when the Cardinals travel to Huntingdon, Pa. for the 2012 Landmark Conference championship.  Start time is set for 11:45 a.m.
