Catholic Takes Second at Season-Opening Meet

Harrisonburg, Va.  The Catholic University of America women's cross country team opened the season at Stevenson's Mustang Stampede and finished second overall. The Cardinals were led by senior Kiera Lyons who placed ninth overall.

Lyons sped to a time of 15:29.52 in the four-kilometer race to lead four Cards in top-15 scoring.

Rookie runner Tara Thornton finished 22nd overall in her first race with a time of 16:16.02. Fellow freshman Shannon Griffin was just behind at 16:32.64, good for 28th.

Catholic also got a top-30 finish from sophomore Alex Filiault with a time of 16:50.79.

Next up the for the Cardinals is the Landmark Preview Meet at Juniata on Saturday, September 9.
