WASHINGTON – In a battle of Landmark Conference teams that are both being recognized nationally in the latest Nation Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) poll, The Catholic University of America earned an impressive victory over Scranton, 4-1.
The No. 18 Cardinals scored the first four goals of the game en route to their fifth victory of the month. CUA is now tied for first in the Landmark standings with a 4-1 league record. Scranton, which was receiving votes in the national poll, lost for just the second time this season, falling to 12-2 overall in 3-2 in conference play.
The Cards offense was rolling in the match as they outshot the Royals, 21-2.
Rookie Molly Crowley had the best game of her young career, scoring twice to open the game, including the gamewinner in the first half.
Landmark leading scorer Rachel Day added to her goal total with a score in the 47th minute.
Catholic added its fourth score of the game off a penalty corner as Taylor Elliott fed it to the top of the arc for Marissa Martinelli who then blasted it home.
CUA now hits the road for two games starting with a national-ranked showdown at No. 13 Christopher Newport on Monday at 3 p.m.
