WASHINGTON – In the final regular season game at Cardinal Stadium, The Catholic University of America field hockey team went into extra time, but it was Juniata that was able to come away with the victory, finding the gamewinner 2:43 into overtime.
Despite the loss, the No. 18 Cardinals will still be in the Landmark Conference semifinals and will get another shot at the Eagles. The two teams play at Juniata on Wednesday at 7 p.m., with a trip to the championship game on the line.
Catholic scored first in Saturday's matchup, as sophomore and leading scorer Rachel Day collected a lose ball in front of the Juniata cage and played it in for her 15th goal of the year.
CUA brought its lead into the break, but the Eagles were able to find the equalizer early in the second half.
Neither team was able to break through offensively in regulation however, but minutes into the extra frame, a deflection near the cage off a shot led to the third goal of the game.
