14 Cards Tabbed to ZAG/NFHCA Academic Squad; Catholic Earns Team Award

WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America field hockey team was honored twice by ZAG Sports and the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA), as the Cardinals earned the National Academic Team Award while 14 student-athletes garned  a place on the National Academic Squad.

Not only did the Cardinals take care of business on the field, winning back-to-back playoff road games to win the Landmark Conference Championship and advance to the NCAA Tournament, they succeeded in the class room as well. The National Academic Team Award recognizes those institutions that achieved a minimum team GPA of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2015-16 academic year.

For the third-straight year, Catholic boasted 13-or-more student-athletes on the yearly academic team. The National Academic Squad recognizes those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2015-16 academic year.

Three Cards were also recognized as four-year honorees on the academic squad as seniors Madalyn Dennis, Taylor Elliott and Tarah Portland each earned the honor in every season of their Catholic careers.
