WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic University field hockey team dropped a close 2-1 game to No. 14 Christopher Newport on Sunday.
The Cardinals battled from behind after Christopher Newport scored 25 minutes into the game to take a 1-0 lead at the half. Catholic responded early in the second half tying the game 1-1, sophomore Meghan Shallow passed the ball from the top of the circle to junior Alexandra DiFlorio on the right post for a redirect and her first career goal.
Christopher Newport then scored 5 minutes later to go up 2-1 and secure the win. The Cards fought to the end, creating great opportunities and earning four penalty corners in the last eight minutes.
Catholic outshot the Captains 12-11 and forced CNU's keeper, Olivia Davis, to make four saves. Sophomore goalie Kim McGroary recorded three saves for the Cards.
