WASHINGTON, D.C. - Catholic University men's basketball junior Riley Hayes totaled 17 points and 17 rebounds as the Cardinals posted a 75-60 victory over Goucher Wednesday on Franny Murray Court in the team's final home game of the 2018-19 season.
Catholic (10-14, 6-7 Landmark) finished the season with a record of 7-8 at home and are 89-26 on Franny Murray Court since the 2011-12 season.
Hayes posted his fifth consecutive double double, his 10th of the season and the 15th of his career. He finished two rebounds shy of his career high set in a 90-88 win over Moravian at home on Feb. 17, 2018.
Playing in the final home game of their careers, seniors Andre Mitchell and Jimmy Golaszewski combined for 23 points and 13 rebounds. Mitchell finished with 13 points, five rebounds and three steals while Golaszewski had 10 points and eight boards.
Freshman Will Mulquin added 13 points, two blocks and a career-high five steals as the Cardinals scored 26 points off of 21 Goucher turnovers.
Leading 43-38, Catholic put the game away with a 12-0 burst to take a commanding 55-38 lead with 8:48 to play. Freshman Will Turgeon scored the first five points of the run and junior Collin Hartman punctuated it with a three-pointer.
Turgeon, making his 13th career start, totaled seven points, seven rebounds and six assists, the last two of which were career highs. He also blocked two shots and recorded two steals.
Hayes scored 13 of his points in the second half and had seven offensive rebounds.
The Cards outscored their long-time rival, 31-16, in points in the paint, 16-2 on second-chance points and 16-4 in fast break points. They held a 51-31 advantage on the glass.
Dwayne Morton paced Goucher (4-20, 1-12 Landmark) with 20 points and six rebounds. Gabe Ceribelli had 11 points, eight boards and five assists.
Catholic closes out the season on the road on Staurday at Drew. Tip-off is at 4 p.m.
