KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Catholic University men's soccer senior midfielder Brian Galfond, junior defender Mike Narzikul, and sophomore forward Ben Alexander have been selected to the NCAA Division III Men's 2018 All-Mid-Atlantic Region Third Team, as announced by the 2018 United Soccer Coaches organization on Monday afternoon.
Leaders in each of their respective positions, the three players were crucial in a successful season for head coach Travis Beauchamp. The Cardinals went 11-6-1, finishing the 2018 campaign on an eight-game unbeaten streak before falling in the Landmark Conference championship, 1-0 to Elizabethtown.
Galfond led the Catholic offense with 14 points on four goals and six assists. He scored in big moments, notching three gamewinners, including goals against conference rivals Scranton and Moravian. Hailing from Gaithersburg, Md., Galfond started 17 games as an attacking midfielder.
Narzikul started all 16 games in which appeared for the Cardinals. As an outside-back, the Media, Pa., native went 1-on-1 with right-wing attackers and created chances on the offensive end. Narzikul helped Catholic to an overall league goals-against average of .57, a season that included eight shutouts. From the backline, he took ten shots and recorded two assists.
Alexander scored a team-high six goals in his first season with the Cardinals. The forward from Bel Air, Md. also fired in three gamewinning goals. Starting in 15 matches, Alexander added one assist and led the team with 47 shots.
The Cardinals earned three of the five total Landmark Conference selections in the regional announcement. Gilbert Waso of Elizabethtown and Aidan Cserhart of Drew were also named to the Mid-Atlantic first and second teams, respectively.
