TOWSON, Md. - After going 4-0 in two Landmark Conference matches last week, Catholic University men's tennis sophomore Frankie Fortunati was named Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week on Monday.
Fortunati, who received his first career weekly honor, is the second Cardinal to be honored in as many seasons after Jan Lasota was honored on April 23, 2018.
Fortunati went 2-0 at No. 2 doubles with senior Ted Tiu and 2-0 in singles with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Elizabethtown's Tyler Spinello at No. 1 in the Cardinals' 7-2 win over Elizabethtown on Sunday. He also posted a 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 win over Moravian's Isaac Schefer at No. 2 singles on Saturday.
Fortunati leads the team with six singles victories this season and is 6-5 in dual matches, including 3-1 at No. 2. Fortunati and Tiu won their second-staight conference match at No. 2 doubles at Elizabethtown. The duo has combined for 11 of the Cardinals' 21 singles wins on the season and four doubles victories.
Catholic returns home on Wednesday when it hosts a Landmark Conference contest versus Goucher at The Dowd Family Tennis Courts beginning at 3 p.m.
