Beckett Named Rookie of the Year, Catholic Finishes Fourth

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Catholic University men's track and field team finished fourth overall with 65 points at the 2019 Landmark Conference Championships.

Sophomore CeeJa Beckett was named the Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year after strong performances across the two-day competition. In addition to his record-breaking gold medal finish yesterday, the Fredericksburg, Va. native also finished fourth in the men's high jump with a mark of 1.68m.

Senior Peter Binck recorded a 52.21 podium finish in the 400m finals to place fourth. He was joined by freshman Patrick Maxwell who finished just behind in seventh place (51.50).

In the hurdling events, junior Joseph McAlonan won the bronze in the men's 400m hurdles. Sophomore Mike Dreitlein also had a strong performance in the 110m hurdles, finishing sixth (16.93).

The mid-distance runners added some points for the Cards overall score as well. Junior Joseph LaPointe placed fourth in the 800m run (1:55.65). His classmate Cosmo Pirozzi finished just behind in sixth place with a time of 1:57.37.

Junior Cornelius Deep led the distance runners with an eighth-place finish in the 10k. The rookie ran it in 34:20.34.

Catholic wrapped up the day with a first-place finish in the 4x400m relay. The team of Maxwell, Binck, LaPointe, and Pirozzi ran a 3:26.03 to capture the gold medal.
