TOWSON, Md. - The Catholic University men's track and field team was picked to finish fourth in the Landmark Conference preseason poll released on Wednesday.
The Cardinals, who were also picked fourth a year ago, finished fifth at the 2019 Landmark Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. Senior Cosmo Pirozzi earned All-Landmark Conference Second Team honors for the second consecutive year after finishing second in the 800 meters.
Senior Joseph LaPointe finished sixth in the 800 and also scored points in the mile run. Pirozzi, LaPointe and sophomore Patrick Maxwell finished third in the 4x400-meter relay while Maxwell also placed fourth in the 400 meters.
New additions this year include junior CeeJa Beckett who was named the 2019 Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year in outdoor track as well as freshmen Paul Ames and John O'Rourke who both earned All-Landmark Conference Second Team honors in men's cross country this fall.
Moravian was picked to win its 11th-straight Landmark Conference title and 12th overall by totaling 60 points and six first-place votes. Elizabethtown came in second with 45 points and one first-place vote while Susquehanna was third with 34 points.
Catholic received 19 points, followed by Juniata and Scranton tied for fifth (16 points) and Goucher (6 points).
The Cardinals open the 2019-20 season next Saturday, Dec. 7 at the Diplomat Open hosted by Franklin & Marshall. The 2020 Landmark Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held on Saturday, Feb. 29 at Susquehanna.
