No. 13 Catholic Drops Second Game of the Season to No. 20 Williams

WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America suffered their second loss of the season in a Thursday afternoon competition against Williams College with a final score of 10-9.

This loss drops the Cardinals to 6-2 overall while with Ephs advance to 5-2 in 2015.

The Williams College Ephs, who won a Tuesday morning game against Union College at Cardinal Stadium in a neutral site spring break game, came out with three goals in the first six minutes of play to gain a 3-0 advantage over Catholic University.

Cardinal goals from Laura Dunn and Anna Stumme cut the Ephs lead to just one but Williams slotted two more of their own to keep a 5-2 lead on Catholic.

Trailing by three goals with just over six minutes to play in the first half, the Cards put in four unanswered goals, two from Madeline Wilson and two from Clair Schmitzer, to gain a 6-5 advantage. The Ephs snuck one more into the cage with just under thirty seconds to play for a 6-6 draw after the first half.

Williams kicked off the second half with back-to-back goals to regain the lead and the Cards played catch up for three remaining 25 minutes of play. Two goals from Stumme and one from Dunn brought the Cards to nine total on the afternoon, but they were still one shy of the Ephs' 10 when the final buzzer sounded.

Tricia Pehnke guarded the cage for the Cardinals making eight saves against the nationally ranked Ephs.

The Cards hit the road to take on Drew University in a Landmark Conference matchup on Saturday, March 28 at 12 p.m.
