No. 13 Catholic Women Fall 14-9 to No. 3 Franklin & Marshall

WASHINGTON - No. 13 The Catholic University of America women's lacrosse team fell to the No. 3 Franklin & Marshall Diplomats on Wednesday, April 8, in Cardinal Stadium.

Back-to-back Landmark Conference Defensive Athlete of the Week, senior goalie Tricia Pehnke, started for the Cardinals, making a total of 12 saves on the day.

The Cardinals struggled for offensive possession in the first half, allowing the Diplomats five straight goals before they got on the board. Senior attack Nicole Laitner scored the first and only goal of the first half at the eight minute mark. The Cardinals entered halftime down 8-1.

Laitner scored her second of the day just five minutes into the second half, assisted by fellow senior attack Lindsay Brophy. Brophy scored two minutes later to make the score 9-3 in favor of Franklin & Marshall. Despite allowing another Diplomats goal, the Cardinals bounced right back with back-to-back goals by sophomore middie-attack Laura Dunn and senior attack Maddie Wilson.

Down 14-5 with under ten minutes to go, the Cardinals finished strong and scored four straight goals. Freshman attack Nicolette Crisalli scored two consecutive goals for Catholic, one of which was assisted by Brophy. Sophomore midfielder Ana Brandenburg scored within the last four minutes of play, followed by fellow sophomore middie Clair Schmitzer.

The Cardinals outscored the Diplomats 8-6 in the second half but the rally effort was two late and they closed out the game down 14-9, putting them at an overall 8-3 on the season.

The Cardinals will host Landmark Conference team Susquehanna on Saturday, April 11, for a 3:00 p.m. game in Cardinal Stadium.
