Women’s Lacrosse Goes Undefeated in Landmark Play

WASHINGTON- The Catholic University of America women's lacrosse team sealed a 17-6 win over the Scranton Royals on Saturday, going 6-0 in the Landmark Conference for the 2014-15 season.

The Cardinals fell to a quick 2-0 deficit in the first half. Freshman attack Nicolette Crisalli scored with an assist from senior attack Maddie Wilson. Wilson followed with a goal off a free position opportunity, tying the game at two. Scranton responded with a goal halfway through the first half, putting the Royals up 3-2.

Crisalli scored her second of the day on a man-up opportunity, assisted by sophomore midfielder Ana Brandenburg. Fellow sophomore middie Alexis Bosilovic put the Cardinals up 4-3 with her unassisted goal. Bosilovic scored another off a free position shot before the end of the half, along with a goal from senior attack Lindsay Brophy. The Cardinals led the Royals 6-4 at halftime.

Bosilovic recorded her third of the day three minutes into the second half, upping the Cardinals to seven. Scranton managed a goal two minutes later, clinching a 7-5 deficit.

Catholic proceeded to score eight straight goals, increasing their lead and looking to seal their sixth conference win. Wilson scored her second goal of the day, followed by back-to-back goals by Crisalli. Brophy then scored two consecutive goals for the Cardinals, increasing the lead 12-5. Crisalli reeled in two more goals, one of which was assisted by sophomore middie-attack Laura Dunn. Dunn also provided the assist to sophomore midfielder Anna Stumme's goal, the Cardinals leading 15-5 before Scranton finally scored their second goal of the half. Catholic closed out the game with goals from Bosilovic and sophomore attack Emily Merkel. The final score read 17-6 Catholic.

Senior goalie Tricia Pehnke started in goal for the Cardinals, making a total of eight saves on the day. Catholic dominated the the midfield with 16 won draw controls, 32 ground balls, and 14 successful clears. In addition, the Cardinals outshot the Royals 39 to 19. Crisalli ended the day with six total goals. Bosilovic recorded four and Brophy three against the Royals.

The No. 1 Cardinals will host the No. 4 Goucher Gophers in the Landmark semifinal on Wednesday, April 29, for a 4:00 p.m. game.
