WASHINGTON - On Friday August 7, The Catholic University of America women's soccer team will depart for their 10-day training trip throughout Spain.
CUA women's soccer will have 18 returning players from the 2014 Landmark Conference Championship roster participating in the Spain tour. The trip will be Head Coach J.P. Sousa's third trip abroad with the squad in his 12 year tenure. The team ventured to England in 2008 and Portugal in 2012.
"Everyone on the team is very excited to go to Spain before starting the 2015 season." said Sousa "It's a wonderful opportunity for the girls and coaches to spend time together on and off the field as we prepare for the fall, and Spain is a pretty cool place to have that experience."
The first two international games will be held in Barcelona. Game one will take place on Monday, August 10, versus Penya Barcelonista Lloret followed by game two on Tuesday against AEM. The squad will then take on Rayo Vallecano in Madrid on Saturday, August 15, before departing and heading back to the states the following morning.
"We are approaching the training sessions next week just as we would with our regular preseason preparation. It's the first building block to what we want to accomplish this fall." said Sousa. "The three games will be used as a way for us to gauge where individual players are before preseason, but to also experiment with some things as we enjoy playing in a very rich European soccer environment."
Catholic women's soccer will host Hood to kick off their competitive season on Tuesday, September 1, at CUA Soccer Field at 4:30 p.m.
