Hackettstown, N.J. - The Catholic University of America women's soccer team suffered their first loss of the 2015 season on Sunday against Misericordia, falling 4-0 against the Cougars in day two of the Cyclone Classic.
The Cardinals fell to a quick 1-0 deficit just five minutes into the first half. The Cougars followed up with a second goal just over one minute later to increase their lead 2-0. Both teams battled forr possession throughout the first half, each registering eight shots.
Catholic's battle proved unsuccessful as Misericordia scored their third goal in the 26th minute, the Cardinals entering halftime down by three. Catholic fought hard in the second half, but was unable to score. Misericordia topped off their day at four in the 76th minute, sealing the Cardinal's first loss this season.
Sophomore Kiera Lyons led the Catholic offense with three shots, one of which was on goal. Juniors Lindsay Aleman and Sarah Madden each tallied two shots apiece, along with freshmen Jillian Sudo and Taylor Pisk. The Cardinals recorded a total of 14 shots on the day, matching their opponent.
Senior Lexi Halperin started in goal for Catholic, making a two saves on the day. Sophomore Ally Marcello made her first season appearance against the Cougars, playing the entire second half for the Cardinals and registering one save.
The Cardinals now hold a 2-1 season record. They will host Randolph in the D.C. Classic on Saturday, September 12, at 2:30 p.m. at CUA Soccer Field.
