WASHINGTON -The Catholic University of America Women's Soccer team blanked Drew University, 4-0, for their third Landmark Conference victory of the season. The Cardinals are now 10-2 overall and 3-0 in the conference, while the Rangers fall to 5-7-1 overall, and 1-2 in the conference.
The Cardinals first tally of the night came in the 31st minute after the Ranger's defense failed to clear the ball successfully. Senior Kirsten Wosleger's quick feet were able to find the rebound and chip a hard ball inside the right post. Eight minutes later, freshman Taylor Pisk, took an unassisted shot to put the Cards ahead 2-0 just before the halftime intermission.
Sophomore Alexa Povelaitis helped put the Cardinals further ahead with an assist to freshman Jillian Sudo quickly after the break. Povelaitis was able to see an open lane, sending the ball to the foot of Sudo, who fired a shot into the net for a 3-0 Catholic lead. Junior Alyssa Fiore, capped off the Cardinals scoring in the 72nd minute when she cut straight through the defense in the 18-yard box, drawing out the goalie, and placing the ball flawlessly between the posts.
Catholic continues conference play, hosting Goucher on Wednesday Oct. 14, at 4 p.m. at CUA Soccer Field.
