Aleman, Brown Earn Conference Honors

Towson, Md. - Junior Lindsay Aleman and senior Ava Brown, of The Catholic University of America women's soccer team, were selected as this week's Landmark Conference Athletes of the Week.

The Cardinals downed two Landmark opponents after coming back from 1-0 deficits against Goucher College and Scranton University.  Brown notched the game winning winning assist in CUA's 5-1 win over the Gophers on Wednesday. Aleman notched the equalizer and game winner on Saturday against the Royals, in their 3-2 overtime victory.

Aleman garnered the Offensive Athlete of the Week honor after tallying eight points for Catholic in the last two games. The four goals bring her conference leading goal count to 15 for the year.

Aleman scored the Cardinal's first and final goals against Goucher in CUA's 5-1 victory. Additionally, Aleman put a penalty kick in the back of the net to tie Scranton before the end of regulation. She then notched the game winner the 107th minute with a left footed one timer off a pass from freshman teammate Taylor Pisk.

"Lindsay had a huge week for us," explains CUA head coach J.P. Sousa. "The goals she scored against Goucher and Scranton were important ones. She has a knack for finding the net when we need it."

Brown was selected as the conference's Defensive Athlete of the Week. The Catholic right-back assisted the Cardinals to back-to-back come from behind conference wins. Brown helped put a stop the both the Goucher and Scranton offense while registering an assist against the Gophers. With Wednesday's game tied at one, Brown served a corner kick to Pisk's head for CUA's go-ahead goal.

"Ava has been a consistent defender for us all year," said Sousa. "Her ability to get forward into the attack makes her that much more valuable on the field. She played two solid games this week, and served a perfect corner kick for Taylor to finish for the game-winner against Goucher."

The Cardinals will continue with conference play on Saturday, Oct. 24 as they take on the Susquehanna Crusaders a 3:30 p.m. for the final home game of the season.
