WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America women’s soccer team advanced its 2017 Landmark Conference record to 3-2 (9-5 overall) with a 1-0 victory over Moravian College on Saturday afternoon.
The Cardinals' lone goal came in the 29th minute of play after being awarded a free kick opportunity. Senior Riley Hawblitzel served the ball from just 45 yards back on the left side. Junior Jillian Sudo trapped the pass at the top right of the 18-yard box and sent a cross to sophomore Grace Boras who stuffed it inside the left post.
Catholic continued to battle and outshot Moravian 6-2 in the second half. The Cardinals had their final opportunity to advance the lead in the 85th minute when sophomore Sarah Brush ripped a shot that shook the crossbar from 25-yards out.
Boras lead the Catholic offensive efforts with three shots during the match while Brush took two. Catholic senior goalkeeper Ally Marcello made three saves to record her fifth win and first shutout of the season.
