WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic University of America women's swimming & diving team has been selected third in the 2018-19 Landmark Conference preseason coaches' poll, released by the league office on Thursday afternoon.
The Cardinals earned 48 points in the poll, trailing the University of Scranton which received 54 points for second place. Susquehanna University, the reigning eight-time Landmark champions, secured the top spot with 70 points.
Catholic looks to build off a historic 2017-18 campaign that ended with second place finish in the conference championships. The team earned 704 points, their highest point total since joining the league in 2007.
Head Coach Paul Waas adds 21 newcomers to the roster this season to push for a Landmark title. A number of conference medalwinners return to the pool to lead the team, including seniors Rachael Zarlinski and Pippa Rogers and sophomores Caroline Beal and Morgan James.
Catholic takes on Division II Barton College to begin the season this Friday, October 12 at 4 p.m. in the DuFour pool. The Cardinals compete against Division I Howard University (Jan. 26). The team also participate in the annual Yellow Jacket Midseason Invitational the first weekend in December.
The Landmark Conference Championships are set for February 15-17.
