Salisbury, Md. - The Catholic University of America women's tennis team fell at Salisbury in the team's spring-season opener, 8-1. The Cardinals had several tight matches, highlighted by a win from junior Elizabeth Ast.
Ast went over in singles competition in one of the thrilling matchups of the day. In the No. 5 spot, Ast was tripped up in the first set, 6-2, but rallied to take the second, 10-8 and was victorious in the tie-breaker, 10-8.
Catholic also got a strong performance in No. 1 singles as senior Jenna Gietl went toe-to-toe and racquet-to-racquet with Salisbury's Annika Kezman. Gietl took two points in the second and three more in the second.
The Cards return to action next month as they head to Hilton Head, S.C., for the team's annual Spring Break trip on March 5-9.
