Cardinals open indoor season at Bow Tie Classic

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – CUA opened its indoor season on Saturday at the Bow Tie Classic, on the campus of Ursinus College.  The Cardinals, who were led by a strong performance from their field event athletes, placed 12th in the 19-school invitational with 28 points.

Leading the way for CUA was senior Kelly Carioto, who won the shot put with a throw of 12.07 meters.

In the other field events, Hannah Gillis placed fifth in the long jump, with a jump of 4.68 meters, while Courtney Doran finished tenth in the high jump with a leap of 1.46 meters.

Erin Sandlin finished fourth in the pole vault, clearing 2.75 meters, and Candace Williamson rode a 9.49 meter jump to a third place finish in the triple jump.

In the 200-meter dash, Sarah Deitz finished 11th in a time of 28.52 seconds, with Kelsey Broomfield not far behind, in 16th place (29.23), and Erin Sanlin in 19th (29.39).

In the 800-meter run, Maria Docal crossed in a time of 2:44.78, which put her in 18th place.

CUA is back in action on Saturday, January 21 when the Cardinals head back to Ursinus for the Collegeville Classic.
