Throwers, Jumpers Compete at Widener Invitational

WASHINGTON - The Catholic University women's indoor track & field team had its throwers and jumpers compete at the Widener Indoor Invitational in Chester, Pa., on Friday, Jan. 31.

It was a solid showing for the Cardinals who will travel again tomorrow, this time to George Mason University for the second meet of the weekend.

On Friday, Candace Williamson led the jumpers, as the junior claimed the long jump with a 4.77 meter leap on her third attempt of the day. Mary Paige Nesfeder was not too far behind as the freshman posted a 4.65m attempt, good for second place. Finishing the Top-3 sweep for CUA was Kristina Petrich whose fifth jump of 4.41m was good for third place.

Williamson turned around and competed in the triple jump along with Petrich, as the duo took third and fifth, on jumps of 9.46m and 8.92m, respectively.

Nesfeder earned her best finish of the season in the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.47m on her first attempt. In the pole vault, Christine Burias broke the Top-5 with a 2.55m effort, while Emily Curato was sixth with a 2.40m showing.

Similar to last week's results at the Lebanon Valley Invitational, sophomores Mary Clark and Megan Ross were neck and neck in both the weighted throw and shot put. Clark edged Ross for third and fourth place in the weighted throw, as Clark threw 13.55m and Ross threw 12.98m. In the shot put, the pair swapped places, as Ross earned a second place finish with a throw of 11.57m, while Clark was third with a 10.87m throw.
