WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America women's volleyball team pushed through their official home opener in three sets with a 25-23, 25-15, 25-21 win over the Gators of Notre Dame (Md.) at the DuFour Athletic Center on Tuesday night.
With the victory, the Cardinals advanced to 12-1 on the season, while NDMU dropped to 3-5 on the year.
CUA took set two with ease holding the Gators to a match-high eight-point deficit. The first and third sets were are not as simple, as the Cardinals trailed after a few rallies in the opening set and tailing the Gators throughout the entire final set until Catholic turned it around at the 17-point mark.
Mary Paige Nesfeder led the offensive brigade with 10 kills and one error on 21 attempts along with recording a pair of service aces. Colleen Farley and Michelle Seals shared the setting responsibilities, as Farley circulated 17 assists and Seals collected 10 assists in one set of play. Michelle Bouchard gathered seven digs, while Brynn Cooley and Audrey Bizak tallied two solo blocks individually.
The Cardinals return to the DuFour Athletic Center on Wednesday, September 17 to face the Green Terror of McDaniel at 7:00 p.m.
