WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America women's volleyball team swept the Hood tri-match on Saturday, September 20, defeating the Hood College Blazers in three sets (25-11, 25-20, 25-8) and capping the Gwynedd Mercy University Griffins in four (19-25, 25-13, 25-8, 25-10).
The Cardinals advance to 15-1 on the season.
To reach the three set victory over the host Blazers, Mary Paige Nesfeder and Brynn Cooley finished with 10 kills apiece. Nesfeder added a match-high seven service aces to the win. Michelle Seals circulated 18 assists, while Colleen Farley added eight assists to the offense. Michelle Bouchard gathered 11 digs to the team's 43 total.
After dropping the first set of the second match, CUA went on to cruise to victory and to obtain their second 17-point margin win of the day. This time Nesfeder paired with Kathryn Herrington for double-figure kill finishes. Nesfeder topped the day with 12 kills on 39 attempts beside Herrington's 11 kills on 21 attempts, they both recorded four errors. Seals registered a day-high 25 assists, while Cooley collected five service aces. Bouchard worked the back row, tallying 30 digs in collaboration with Cooley, who finished with 10 digs. Maria Juelle assisted on seven stops, as Herrington finished with six block assists.
The Cardinals return to action on Tuesday, September 23 for their first Landmark Conference match of the season against the Gophers of Goucher College at 7:00 p.m. in the DuFour Athletic Center.
