WASHINGTON – Tara Rempel recorded a career-high nine kills in combination with Maria Juelle's team-high 12 kills and Mary Paige Nesfeder's nine kills to assist The Catholic University of America women's volleyball to team to a 21-25, 25-22, 29-27, 25-18 victory over the Eagles of Mary Washington on Tuesday, September 30 in the DuFour Athletic Center.
Along with the trios kill outing, Michelle Seals circulated 30 assists, while Juelle racked up four service aces. Michelle Bouchard gathered 23 digs, as Nesfeder recorded three solo blocks and Kathryn Herrington assisted on three stops.
The four-set win advances CUA to 17-3 on the year, while UMW drops to 12-6.
Catholic led during the opening rallies of the first set, but a 4-1 run by the Eagles led to a 10-10 tie. The two squads would fluctuate between lead changes, until UMW took the lead at the 19-17 mark and cruised to a 25-21 win.
In the second set, Catholic trailed by most of the match until a series of errors by the Eagles and a service ace Elizabeth Levine put the Cardinals on top for a 25-22 win.
Set three of the evening was a nail bitter. The Cards were leading by 10 points, when the UMW offense came to life. The surge led to a 23-23 tie with each team looking to obtain the two-point advantage for the set win. On a kill by Nesfeder and an Eagles' error, Catholic found its footing and took set three 29-27.
CUA carried over their previous set momentum in to set four, taking the lead the 8-7 mark and coasting to a 25-18 win.
Catholic will host York (Pa.) on Wednesday, October 1 at 7:00 p.m. at the DuFour Athletic Center.
