Cardinals, Abdelrazek Begin 26th Season With First Practices

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic women's volleyball team officially began its 2018 season on Monday, August 20 with its first practice inside the DuFour Center. The day started with a practice at 10 a.m., that focused on individual work before the team returned to the gym for an afternoon session.

"The first day went well," said head coach Nagy Adelrazek who enters his 26th season. "We had a good morning session. Most of the players are in good shape and everyone is very excited to play."

Abdelrazek is optimistic about the upcoming season. The Cardinals finished with 16 wins last year, but have won at least 20 in eight of the last 11 seasons. They return All-Landmark Conference Second Team selection, sophomore Patricia Martinez, who finished in the top 10 in the league in both kills and digs last season.

"My team is very young with only one senior, but I think we will do well with the help of our newcomers, including freshmen Caroline Kelly and Juliana Michniak," said Abdelrazek.

Catholic has just 10 days left before its season opener against Mary Baldwin at the Eastern Mennonite Invitational on Friday, August 31 at 3 p.m. The team opens Landmark Conference play on Saturday, Sept. 29 against Moravian.
